Pelago

Pelago is a municipality with 7521 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Florence in the Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 54 km ². It lies about 20 km east of Florence and belongs to the administrative community Comunità montana Montagna Fiorentina.

The districts include Borselli, Carbonile, Consuma, Diacceto, Fontisterni, Magnale, Palaie, Paterno, Raggioli, San Francesco, Sant'Ellero and Stentatoio.

The neighboring municipalities are Montemignaio (AR), Pontassieve, Prato Vecchio Stia (AR), Regello, Rignano sull'Arno and Rufina.

History

The castle of the Guidi ( Castello dei Conti Guidi) in the center was already mentioned in 1089.

Attractions

  • Pieve di San Clemente, 1413 resulting Pieve.
  • Pieve di San Lorenzo, which was incurred before 1073 in the village of Pieve Diacceto.
