Pfetterhouse

Pfetterhouse (German Pfetterhausen; . Els Pfatterhüsa ) is a commune with 1042 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. The inhabitants Pfetterhousiens or Pfetterhousiennes call themselves. The coat of arms shows a "Snow Goose". Pfetterhouse is the seat of the Municipal Association Vallée de la Largue.

Geography

Pfetterhouse located in the southwestern Sundgau and is adjacent to the Territory Territoire de Belfort and the Swiss canton of Jura. The neighboring communities are there Bonfol and Beurnevésin. History

A first mention of the locality dates from the year 732 with the Latin name " Petrosa ", which can point to a rocky road. According to embodiments of the archaeologist Karl Goodman the name could also be derived from a quarry for a Roman station in Largtal. Later, the Alemanni gave the village its name " Pfetterhausen ". After 1648, the place was like the rest of the Habsburg possessions in Alsace in France. The devastated village was occupied by settlers from the Tyrol and Switzerland.

From 1871 to 1920, the place to kingdom country Alsace -Lorraine. West of the town there was the border triangle between Germany, France and Switzerland. It was known at that time, especially the "three borders stone ". To avoid the German import duty on their products numerous branches Swiss watchmakers emerged in the border town.
