Pfons

Pfons is a municipality with 1232 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Innsbruck Land, Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Innsbruck.

Geography

Location

Pfons located in the northern Wipptal, east of Sill, immediately adjacent to Matrei. Together with Matrei and Mühlbachl Pfons has many infrastructural facilities. In Pfons the old salt road over elbows, branches off to the Hall.

The extensive municipality comprises the hamlets and farms of the eastern rocker age race to the Navis.

History

The Naming of Pfons is unclear. The name comes from either " phanes " or " fanes " ( slope ) or of " pons " ( bridge). 1030 " Phunzun " was first mentioned in records in 1177 appeared the name " Phanes " on. The first documented mention of the district Schöfens ( Schevens ) was 1315.

Since 1811 Pfons is an independent municipality. A congregation merged with Matrei and Mühlbachl was rejected at a referendum in 1974.

Within the area above the village of Matrei earlier marble ( Matrei serpentine) was dismantled, the stone was used as a decoration in many churches in the Tyrol, but also in the design of the Burgtheater and Museum of Natural History in Vienna.

Mayor in Pfons is Argen Woertz of the citizens list Pfons Argen Woertz. He was able to win in 2010 against Helmut Kirchmair from home Pfons list with 57.75 % of votes.

Coat of arms

The Pfonser coat of arms shows a yellow background on a blue rooster holding a hammer in his right claw. In this case the cock refers to the first known owner of the castle Arnholz. The former decomposition of serpentine found in Hammer of the cock again.
