Philippe of Belgium

Philippe and Filip ( born April 15, 1960 in Brussels ) is, since July 21, 2013 King of the Belgians and thus Head of State of Belgium. It comes from the House of Saxe -Coburg and Gotha, and is the eldest son of his predecessor, King Albert II and his wife Queen Paola.

Name

He was baptized on the name Philippe Léopold Louis Marie ( French ) or Leopold Lodewijk Maria Filip ( Dutch). However, his official name as king is only Philippe ( also in German language, which is also an official language in Belgium ) and Filip ( Filip's not ). The name is passed in each case without atomic number.

King Philippe has two siblings, Prince Laurent and Princess Astrid. His high school he graduated from in 1978, after which he attended until 1981, the Royal Military School and was a fighter pilot. After completing his military training, he attended Trinity College, Oxford University and Stanford University. In 1985 he reached there, the Master of Arts degree in political science.

Philippe took over after the end of his education from his father many official duties. So he led many trade missions abroad. He is a member of the Club of Rome. In 2012 he was a participant in the Bilderberg conference, an informal, private meeting of influential people. His interests include literature, social issues and sports.

Philippe was already informally provided as a followup to his childless uncle Baudouin, although his father Albert was higher in the succession. As Baudouin but died suddenly in 1993, Philippe was still regarded as too young. According to his father not renounced the throne and joined himself to the succession. Philippe was from that moment on, the eldest son of the reigning king's heir to the throne with the title of Duke of Brabant.

• Elisabeth Thérèse Marie Hélène, Duchess of Brabant (born 25 October 2001 in Anderlecht). Elisabeth is the heir to the throne of her father and is ranked one of the Belgian throne. His godparents are his second cousin Baroness Maria Christina von Freyberg and his uncle Charles -Henri d' Udekem d' Acoz. As he visits his sister since 2006, the Sint -Jan Berchmanscollege in Brussels.
• Emmanuel Leopold Guillaume François Marie ( born October 4, 2005 in Anderlecht). He was baptized on 10 December, 2005 Ciergnon. His godparents are his aunt Countess Elisabeth d' Udekem d' Acoz Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and.
