Pierz is a small town ( with a status of "City" ) in Morrison County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, Pierz had 1393 inhabitants.
Geography
Pierz is located near the geographical center of Minnesota at 45 ° 58'54 " north latitude and 94 ° 06'17 " west longitude. The city covers an area of 3.5 km ².

History
The story of Pierz began in 1869, when the still existing Pierz Township was created. The Township was named after a native of Slovenia Catholic priest Francis Xavier Pierz. In 1892 the present town, which was known as Rich Prairie previously was renamed Pierz and incorporated as a separate municipality.
To the Catholic St. Joseph's Church, built in 1888, which still dominates the town, settled increasingly Catholic German immigrants. About 80 percent of today's residents are of German descent.
The fertile soil of the area became the basis for economic development of the city. Numerous based on the agricultural farms settled next to wood industry, retailers and craft enterprises.
