Polomka

Polomka ( until 1927 slovak also " Polonka "; Hungarian Garamszécs - to 1902 Polonka ) is a town in central Slovakia. It is located in the upper Pohronie at the foot of the Low Tatras and the Muránska planina, 19 km of Brezno.

The village was probably founded in the 14th century and belonged to the manor of Burg Muráň. However, the first written record comes from the year 1525. Later Middle Ages, gold, silver and iron ore were promoted. Later, the inhabitants lived on sheep farm and forestry.

Other attractions in the Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist from 1669 and the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is part of the 1828. The place is also a starting point for hikes in the surrounding mountains.

The municipality also includes the district Hámor.
