The Private Armenian School of Pangaltı ( Turkish Özel Pangaltı Ermeni Okulu ) is a 1811 based private Anatolian High School ( Anadolu Lisesi ) of the Armenian community of the district in the district of Şişli Elmadağ in Istanbul.

Name

The full name of the school is Özel Pangaltı Ermeni İlkokulu Ortaokul ve Anadolu Lisesi Lisesi, translated: "Private Armenian elementary school, middle school, high school and Anatolian High School of Pangaltı ". In Turkish Anadolu Lisesi education is a term for secondary schools which operate an intensive foreign language teaching; in general, German, French and English.

History

The Armenian private school of Pangaltı was founded in 1811 in the district of the then district Kandilli Uskudar, on the Asian side of Istanbul. It was closed in 1816 by the Ottoman government. The school was then in the former Pera (today Beyoğlu ), re-established in 1825 in Thrace (European) part of the former Istanbul by a monastic Mechitaristenorden. After reopening the school sat their work within one mechitaristischen Monastery in Pera continued until 1866, when it was moved to its standing to this day location. Today the school operates under the auspices of the Ministry of National Education and subject to the same regulations as other public and private schools, but at the same time served the needs of the Armenian community of Istanbul.
