Prosper Poullet

Prosper Antoine Marie Joseph Graf Poullet ( born December 9, 1868 in Leuven, † December 23, 1937 ) was a Belgian Catholic politician and Prime Minister.

Life-history and professional activities

After studying law and philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven beat Graf Poullet after graduation to Doctor iuris (1890) an academic career as a professor of law at the Catholic University of Leuven in. In addition, he was a doctor of philosophy and literature. From 1927 to 1930 he was chairman of the Flemish Lawyers Association.

He was also a member of the 1892 K.D.St.V. Bavaria Bonn in CV. Back in Belgium, he became a member of K.A.V. Lovania lions, a CV befriended the connection.

Political career

His political career began in 1908 as a member of the Chamber of Deputies. There he represented until 1937, the interests of the Katholieke Partij. Between 1911 and 1918 he was Minister of Arts and Sciences in the cabinet of Charles de Broqueville.

From 1918 to 1919 he was president of the Chamber of Deputies and then to 1920, Minister of Railways, Post and Telegraph in the cabinet of Léon Delacroix.

In the cabinet of Georges Theunis, he was Minister of the Interior from 1924 to 1925 at times. In the transitional cabinet of Aloys van de Vijvere he was from May to June 1925 Minister of Economic Affairs.

On June 17, 1925, he was the successor of van de Vijvere himself prime minister. In his reigning until May 20, 1926 Government is also taking over the Ministry of Justice and at times 1926, the Ministry of Defence. During his reign Poullet had to deal with the former occupation of the Ruhr. After a financial crisis, his government was forced to resign. On May 20, 1926 him the royal honorary title was awarded a " minister of state ".

On October 22, 1932 Prime Minister de Broqueville appointed him Secretary of the Interior in his reigning until November 20, 1934 Cabinet.

Count Poullet was honored during his political career with numerous domestic and foreign orders.
