Geography

Ranstadt lies at an altitude of 134 m above sea level. It is a small center in the middle of the Wetterau district, at the junction of the Wetterau Vogelsberg. The nearest major cities are ( clockwise from the west) Friedberg ( Hesse) ( 17 km), Bad Nauheim ( 20 km), Nidda ( 6 km) and Büdingen (15 km). More important, surrounding cities are Frankfurt am Main, Hanau and Giessen. In particular, Frankfurt with the Frankfurt / Rhine -Main airport (about 40 minutes car ride) here occupies an important position for commuters and travelers.

Neighboring communities

Ranstadt bordered to the north by the town of Nidda, in the east on the town Ortenberg, in the southeast on the community Glauburg, in the south on the town Florstadt, and in the west of the city Reichel home and the community Echzell.

Boroughs

The districts Bellmuth, Bobenhausen I Dauernheim, top Mockstadt and Ranstadt are predominantly rural residential communities in the Nidda and Laisbachtal.

History

Middle Ages

The oldest surviving mention of Ranstadt found as Ramstat in a charter of the monastery of Fulda, which was built between the years 750 and 802. Ranstadt belonged in the Middle Ages and in early modern times to the Official Ortenberg, a Kondominat, which was formed by three rulers from among the members of the Wetterau Count Association.

Ecclesiastical belonged to the collegiate Ranstadt Mockstadt in the Archdiocese of Mainz. Church Safety Authority was the Archdeacon of St. Maria ad Gradus in Mainz.

Early Modern Times

Since all three members of the Kondominats turned toward the Reformation, also Ranstadt became Lutheran. 1556 so it was given its own parish. 1601, there was a real division of Kondominats, the Ranstadt the county Stolberg- Gedern and the local " office Ortenberg " slammed.

Modern Times

1806 was the County of Stolberg - and thus Ranstadt - to the Grand Duchy of Hesse. Here Ranstadt belonged to the civil magnificent office Gedern. 1821 was the Grand Duchy of the District Administrator District Nidda, which also Ranstadt was assigned, and was called the 1832 Circle Nidda. With the revolution of 1848, the government district Nidda was briefly formed in 1852 but revived the circle Nidda. 1874 came the village to the district Büdingen.

Incorporations

At the municipal reform in Hesse communities Bellmuth, Bobenhausen I Dauernheim and upper Mockstadt were integrated into the community Ranstadt on 1 October 1971.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on June 12, 1982 by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.

Blazon: "In nine red and silver shield split a black, border deer. "

The resulting coat of arms now takes into account the historical past of the new municipality of parts. The black deer is taken from the coat of arms of the Counts of Stolberg, who were originally owners of Ranstadt. This deer was used in ancient Ranstädter crest. The red and white stripes, which replace the golden principles of Stolberg coat of arms, point to the prevailing in the other parts of the municipality local rule of the Landgrave of Hesse, as well as the Counts of Isenburg.

Transport and Infrastructure

Ranstadt has a breakpoint at the Lahn- Kinzig- train that connects Ranstadt with casting and Gelnhausen. In addition to train service exists, the line 374 on the relation Nidda - provides a further connection Gelnhausen morning and evening - Büdingen.
