Redbeard (comics)

The Crimson Pirate ( Barbe- Rouge) is a published 1959-2004 French- Belgian comic series.

Action

The real hero of the series is Rick, whose parents were killed during a robbery of the Red Corsairs. The Crimson Pirate adopted the orphanage and brings him up. Later Rick finds out that he comes from an influential French aristocratic family. As a proficient sailor he is fighting against the English and Spanish and is even taken from the French king in the service. The Crimson Pirate presents him with the old tripod a shrewd counselor and with the former black slaves Baba an immensely powerful protector to the side.

Background

Jean -Michel Charlier wrote the series, which was graphically implemented by Victor Hubinon. In the short term had Eddy Paape and Jijé step in to prevent publication gaps in Pilote. When Victor Hubinon the series gave, Gilles Chaillet recorded the current album to a close. The successor took over Jijé. After his death, led by Jean-Michel Charlier series with two signatories on. Publications

The series was published 1959-1968 under the name Le Démon des Caraïbes in Pilote, and between 1979 and 1980 Barbe- Rouge in Super Ace. Two short stories were published in paperback format. The albums production was started by Dargaud and continued by other publishers. The total output came from Dargaud. Bastion released the series for the first time in the German language area. The old Zack gave out two episodes, which were printed in the form of albums. After Carlsen and Ehapa cult took over the issue of the albums.

Short stories

By Jean -Michel Charlier and Victor Hubinon published in Super Pocket Pilot, the paperback edition of Pilote, two youth adventure as short stories. A stand-alone series was created in 1996 with the youth of the Red Corsairs.

Animated series

In 1997, a 26teilige animated series was aired under the direction of Jean Cubaud on French television. From this, an English language version exists under the title Captain Red Beard.
