Regional Municipality of York

The Regional Municipality of York, also called York Region, is an Regional Municipality (Regional Municipality ) in southwestern Ontario, Canada. The capital and seat of the Regional Council is Newmarket. The population is 1,032,524 (2011), the area of ​​1762.17 km ², which corresponds to a population density of 585.9 inhabitants per km ².

York is part of the metropolitan region of the Greater Toronto Area and the Golden Horseshoe metropolitan area. The regional municipality located immediately north of Toronto and south of Lake Simcoe. It was formed in 1971 from parts of the former York County.
