Rijswijk

( Listen? / I ) Rijswijk is a municipality in the Netherlands, South Holland province, with 47 351 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The population has been declining slowly since 1999.

Location and economic

The municipality of Rijswijk is located east of The Hague and is a suburb of the Dutch city of residence. It is accessible from The Hague Central Station in just a few minutes by rail, but also by tram. Several highways to The Hague traverse the community.

Rijswijk, are an important laboratory complex of the TNO ( TNO is about the Dutch counterpart of the German Fraunhofer -Gesellschaft) and many offices, including the CBR. History

Until about 270 here was a settlement of the Germanic Cananefaten or Caninefaten. Around 1200 a church was built around a farming community. In the area four castles were built, of which Te Werve was the most important.

In the 17th and 18th centuries Rijswijk was popular with the rich and powerful from The Hague.
