Rokel River

The Rokel is the largest river in Sierra Leone.

From the Loma Mountains, it flows about 386 km south-west and along with a small additional flux, the Bankasoka (Port Loko ), it forms a larger estuary and flows into the Sierra Leone River. Sierra Leone's capital Freetown is located at the entrance of this estuary, about 40 miles downstream from the mouth of Rokel and Bankasoka.

In accordance with the Order of the British Empire Sierra Leone is also known as "Order of the Rokel ".
