Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Arequipa

The Archdiocese of Arequipa (Latin: Archidioecesis Arequipensis ) is a location in Peru Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Arequipa.

History

The Diocese of Arequipa was founded on April 15, 1577 by Pope Gregory XIII. with the Papal Bull Apostolatus officium built out of territory of the Archdiocese of Lima and this is a suffragan. On May 23, 1943, the Diocese of Arequipa was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Inter praecipuas to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese had in its history several times parts of its territory from the creation of new dioceses.
