Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Juba

The Archdiocese of Juba (Latin: Archidioecesis Iubaensis, Arabic جوبا Juba, Juba alternative spelling ) is a facility located in Southern Sudan Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Juba.

The ecclesiastical province of Juba includes the suffragan dioceses Malakal, Rumbek, Yambio, Tambura, Torit, Wau and Yei the entire South Sudan.

History

Around 1923, the area around Juba for the Vicariate Apostolic of Wau, which was in turn placed under the Apostolic Prefecture for the area around the Bahr al - Jabal Nilabschnitt belonged.

As of July 14, 1927, the Apostolic Prefecture of Bahr al - Jabal had their headquarters in Juba.

On April 12, 1951 Bahr al - Jabal got its own vicariate and lasted until May 25, 1961 at which the Apostolic Vicariate was erected by Juba.

On December 12, 1974, the Vicariate was elevated to archdiocese. Since 2011 it is the only archdiocese in the newly established state of South Sudan.

Cathedral

Built in 1952 St. Teresa 's Cathedral in Juba is the bishop's church. It is because of its location in the southwestern section of the city of Juba, Kator also called Kator Cathedral.
