Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maceió

The Archdiocese of Maceió (Latin: Archidioecesis Maceiensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Maceió in the State of Alagoas.

History

The Archdiocese of Maceió was born on July 2, 1900 by Pope Leo XIII. with the Papal Bull Post draw Temporibus hisce out of territory of the Diocese of Olinda erected as a diocese of Alagoas and the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia is a suffragan. The Diocese of Alagoas was placed under the Archdiocese of Olinda suffragan on 5 December 1910. On April 3, 1916, the Diocese of Alagoas were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Penedo. The Diocese of Alagoas changed on 25 August 1917 his name in the diocese of Maceió.

On February 13, 1920, the diocese was elevated to an archdiocese Maceió. The Archdiocese of Maceió announced on February 10, 1962 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Palmeira dos Índios.
