Roman Catholic Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia

The Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia (Latin: Sancti Archidioecesis Salvatoris in Brasilia ) is a Roman Catholic diocese located in the third largest city in Brazil, Salvador, State of Bahia. It is Metropolitan diocese.

The diocese was founded on February 25, 1551 as the Diocese of São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos by Pope Julius III. established from the Portuguese Archbishopric Funchal out, and this assumed as suffragan. First bishop was Pedro Fernandes Sardinha. On November 16, 1676 Diocese by Innocent XI was. raised to an archbishopric; first archbishop was Joaquim Borges de Figueroa.
