Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Westminster

The Archdiocese of Westminster (Latin: Archidioecesis Vestmonasteriensis ) is a location in the UK Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church with headquarters in London.

It includes all the municipalities of the administrative area major London north of the Thames and west of the River Lea and the nearby districts outside London Staines, Sunbury-on -Thames and Hertfordshire ( county).

History

Already 1540-1550 there was a created by Henry VIII Anglican Diocese of Westminster at Westminster Abbey, whose only Bishop Thomas Thirlby was.

To 1622 the Vicariate Apostolic of England was established. On January 30, 1688 the Vicariate in the four curacies Midland District, Western District, Northern District and London District was divided. On September 29, 1850, restored with the Zirkumskriptionsbulle Universalis Ecclesiae, the Catholic hierarchy in England and the Vicariate raised to the archdiocese and ecclesiastical province which today is divided in addition to the archbishopric in the suffragan Brentwood, East Anglia, Northampton and Nottingham.

The Episcopal Church of Westminster is Westminster Cathedral in the City of Westminster (London), which is at the same time main Catholic Church of Wales and England.
