Roman Catholic Diocese of Socorro y San Gil

The Diocese of Socorro y San Gil (Latin: Dioecesis Succursensis et Sancti Aegidii, Spanish: diócesis de Socorro y San Gil ) is a location in Columbia Roman Catholic diocese based in Socorro.

History

The Diocese of Socorro y San Gil was on 20 March 1895 by Pope Leo XIII. out of territory of the Diocese of Nueva Pamplona erected as Diocese of Socorro. The Diocese of Socorro was renamed on 19 January 1928 in Diocese of Socorro y San Gil. On April 2, 1928, the Diocese of Socorro y San Gil were parts of its territory from establishing the Territorialprälatur Magdalena River. A further transfer of territory took place on 14 May 2003 foundation of the diocese Vélez.

The Diocese of Socorro y San Gil is the Archdiocese of Bucaramanga is a suffragan.
