Roman Catholic Diocese of Ziguinchor

The Diocese of Ziguinchor (Latin: Dioecesis Ziguinchorensis ) is a location in Senegal Roman Catholic diocese based in Ziguinchor. It includes the Ziguinchor region.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Ziguinchor with the Apostolic Constitution Ut inter Infideles on April 25, 1939 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Dakar. On 10 July 1952 she was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate.

On September 14, 1955, she was charged with the Bull Dum Tantis to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Dakar assumed as suffragan.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • January 21, 1957 at the Prefecture Apostolic of Kaolack;
  • December 22, 1999 to the Diocese of Kolda.
