Ronald Machtley

Ronald Keith Machtley ( born July 13, 1948 in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania) is an American politician. Between 1989 and 1995 he represented the first electoral district of the state of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

After primary school, Ronald Machtley graduated in 1970, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Between 1970 and 1975 he was an active member of the Navy. After that he belonged until 1995 to the reserve. After studying law at Suffolk University in Boston, he was admitted in 1978 as a lawyer.

Machtley joined the Republican Party and was elected in 1988 as the candidate in the first district of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he broke on January 3, 1989 Fernand St. Germain of the Democratic Party. After two re- elections he could remain until January 3, 1995 in Congress. In 1994 he abandoned a bid again. Its seat then went to the Democrats Patrick Joseph Kennedy.

After his time in Congress Machtley ran unsuccessfully for the office of the governor of Rhode Iceland. Since 1996 he has been President of Bryant University in Smithfield.
