Rosenbach, Görlitz

Rosenbach is a municipality in the district Görlitz, Saxony, which was created in 1994 by the merger of the municipalities Bischdorf and Herwigsdorf.

Geography and transport

The community Rosenbach located in the southern part of the district, about 5 km east of Lobau at an altitude 237-350 m. The Federal Highway 6 and the Görlitz -Dresden railway line running north of the community. The highest point in the municipality is the dominant Rotstein with 455 m.

The quarters are Bischdorf ( Sorbian: Biskopice ), Upper Bischdorf, Steinberg and Herwigsdorf.

History

The Castle Ward area Dolgowitz ( Dolgawiz ) am Rotstein was tribal area of Slavic Milzener who had settled in earlier times north of the mountainous forest areas in the Auelandschaften the Lusatian Arabah in the 10th century. Bischdorf and Herwigsdorf were settled by German colonists in the 13th century. However, first documented mention was Bischdorf 1227 Herwigsdorf until 1317. Herwigsdorf land was owned by the Bishop of Meissen Herwig ( 1108-1118 ). The Oberlausitzer border deed dated 1241 calls in the vicinity of Castle Ward Dolgowitz the tow path to Hirschberg ( Jelenihora ), Herwig village is not yet known. The episcopal estates in the region of Upper Lusatia is authenticated by royal gifts to the Diocese of Meissen in the 11th century. However, in the 12th and 13th centuries possessed the Bohemian king as feudal lord over the supremacy. To Herwigsdorf included four manors. Characteristic is the Waldhufen corridor along the Rosenbach's.

On January 1, 1994, the municipalities Bischdorf and Herwigsdorf banded together in the wake of the Saxon municipal reform to the community Rosenbach. It is named after the eponymous tributary of the River Spree.

Coat of arms

Blazon: In gold under blue sign head which two diagonally crossed pastorals, sheaf, between two natural colored acorns three green oak leaves, each with a black handle.

Meaning: The colors blue and yellow are the traditional colors of Upper Lusatia. The pastorals are symbolic of the district Bischdorf, the acorns and oak leaves represent the district Herwig village where an old oak tree.

Attractions

In and around Rosenbach some sights exist. These include:

  • Rotstein of the oldest nature reserve in Saxony and a newly built observation tower,
  • Remains of a Christian chapel from the 10th/11th. Century on the George Berg,
  • A church from the 13th century chancel arch and star in Bischdorf,
  • A food grinder (restored water mill ) with the oldest still -functioning internal waterwheel Saxony (diameter 5 m) in Bischdorf,
  • A 1000 year old oak tree in Herwigsdorf,
  • And a church dedicated in 1495 Herwigsdorf with ridge turret tower, baroque pulpit altar Herrschaftsloge and painted coffered ceiling dating from the 16th century. In the years 2000 and 2001, the church was renovated.
