Rüdiger Stenzel

Rüdiger Stenzel ( born April 16, 1968 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a former German track and field athlete and Olympian, who was the 1500 - meter runner successfully in the 1990s. His greatest achievement is the second place at the World Indoor Championships in 1997.

In 1995 he was winner of the European Cup Final.

It was 1994, 1997 and 1999 German champion in 1500 -meter run and 1996 and 1999 German champion in short-distance cross-country running.

With his best time of 3:33,60 minutes in the 1500 meter race he was up for the 2005 season in fifth place of eternal German leaderboard.

The first significant victory of his athletic career debut in 1986 at the German Youth Halls Championships in the 800 meters. Here he struck a newcomer completely surprising the high Favourites Alexander Adam (ASV Köln ) with two hundredths of a second in 1:52,56 min.

In our memory are the numerous duels with Dieter Baumann, whom he defeated in 1996 as the first national athlete at the athletics meeting in roadstead than 1500 meters.

Rüdiger Stenzel holds the German indoor record for 1500 meters ( 3:36,09 min from the year 1998) and the outdoor record with the 4- times -1500 -meter relay team of TV Wattenscheid 01

He was one of the sports club TV Wattenscheid to (first Coach: Peter Brüggemann ). At a size of 1.80 m, it had a competition weight of 65 kg. In 2002, he ended his sports career.

Rüdiger Stenzel works as a branch manager at the Municipal Sports Association in Bochum. He is not related to the equally successful long distance runner Kurt Stenzel.
