Saad Al-Asmari

Saad Shaddad Al- Asmari (Arabic: سعد شداد الأسمري, DMG Sa ʿ d al - Asmari Saddad; * September 24, 1968 ) is a former Saudi Arabian long-distance runner, who specializes in the steeplechase.

His most significant success was winning the bronze medal in the steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 1995. Behind the title defender Kiptanui and Christopher Koskei from Kenya he reached the destination in Asia record time of 8:12,95 min. Al- Asmari was the first Saudi Arabian athlete who was able to win a medal at the world championships. At the World Athletics Championships 1997 in Athens, he finished fourth.

In addition, Al- Asmari was in the steeplechase three times Asian champions (1993, 1995, 1998 ) and pan-Arab Champion (1993, 1997, 1999 ). He won in 1994 at the Asian Games and 1997 at the Pan Arab Games. Away from his special discipline in 1995 he became Asian champions in the 5000 -meter run and 1997 in cross-country running.

Saad Shaddad Al- Asmari is 1,85 m tall and had a competition weight of 72 kg.
