Saint-Éloi-de-Fourques

Saint- Eloi -de- Fourques is a commune with 462 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the Communauté de communes rurales Local Government Association du canton de Brionne.

Geography

Saint- Eloi -de- Fourques located in Roumois, 16 kilometers southwest of Elbeuf and 8.6 kilometers northeast of Brionne, between the hamlet of Saint -Taurine -des- Ifs belonging to Bosrobert and lies in the west, Saint -Paul -de - Fourques in the south and Le Gros -Theil in the east at the E402. History

Originally Fourques was a big village which was divided into two places, Saint- Eloi -de- Fourques and Saint -Paul -de- Fourques. Orderic Vitalis (1075-1142) mentioned in his Historia Ecclesiastica the main town Fourques as Furcas ( fork, pitchfork bifurcation ).

At the founding of the Abbey Le Bec in the 11th century the family Croc of the Abbey gave everything they had in Fourques. At the beginning of the 13th century gave Guillaume de Fourques the Abbey Le Bec lands and money. In 1319, the separation of the districts had already taken place, where Saint- Eloi -de- Fourques was the original settlement, as Sanctus Eligius de Furcis the village was mentioned in the cartulary of the Abbey of Le Bec. Pope Clement VI. (1291-1352) began in 1348, the abbey Le Bec officially as the owner of Saint- Eloi -de- Fourques one. Attractions

The church of Saint - Eloi still contains the remains of a Roman building. The choir was built in 1260-1280. The Arc triomphal rests on columns whose capitals are decorated with acanthus leaves.
