Salmo aphelios

The Salmo aphelios is a species of fish in the salmon family (Salmonidae ), which is endemic in the Lake Ohrid on the Albanian- Macedonian border.

Features

Salmo aphelios reaches a length of 40 centimeters, and possibly more. Outside it's the Ohrid trout ( Salmo letnica ) and the type Salmo balcanicus very similar, but differs from them by their orange flesh. Head and body are silvery with black spots. Red spots are present mainly in the lateral line organ

Way of life

The species spawns from May to July on the east coast of the lake, which is separated from the spawning in January and February kind Salmo letnica and of the October-January at the outflow of the lake spawning Salmo balcanicus in reproduction.
