San José de las Lajas is a city and a municipality in the north of the Cuban province Mayabeque. By 2010, the municipality was part of the defunct province of La Habana.
The municipality is located north of Bejucal and southwest of Jaruco. The settlement was officially founded in 1778.
The municipality counts 73 136 inhabitants in an area of 591 km ², which corresponds to a population density of 123.2 inhabitants per square kilometer.
San José de las Lajas is divided into eleven districts ( Barrio ): Chavez, Cotilla, Ganuza, Independencia Norte, Independencia Sur, Jamaica, Jaula, Portugalate San Andrés, Santa Bárbara and Tapaste.
