Sankt Willibald

St. Willibald ( Sankt Willibald ) is a municipality in the Austrian state of Upper Austria in Schärding district in Innviertel with 1112 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The municipality is located in the judicial district Schärding.

Geography

St. Willibald is located on 455 m altitude in Innviertel. The expansion is 4.7 kilometers from north to south, from west to east 6 km. The total area is 14.5 km ². 28.3 % of the area is forested, 62.8 % of the area is used for agriculture.

Blazon: In a silvery green, used with a wavy red bar oblique beams; above a silver, left Obereck, topped with three blue, upright diamonds, down two golden arrows diagonally across each other. The municipality colors are green and white and black.

History

The area was already inhabited in Celtic and Roman times. Since the establishment of the Duchy of Bavaria, the area was Bavarian. 777 is " fluenta Antalanga " ( Antlangbach ) mentioned in a document, the village Aichet 1110 is mentioned for the first time. Only for the year 1489 the village "sand Willbald " is called. The municipality came in 1780 after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then Innbaiern ) to Austria. During the Napoleonic Wars shortly royal Bavarian, part of the community since 1814 finally returned to Austria above the Enns and has since divided his story. By the end of 2002, the village belonged to the district court Raab, after its dissolution, she was assigned to the judicial district of Schärding.

In 1991, the municipality had 1130 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 then 1141 inhabitants.

Culture and sights

  • Catholic Parish Church of St. Willibald: A late Gothic hall church with two and former pilgrimage church with a largely Neo-Gothic furnishings. The Baroque bell tower was in 1733 placed on the church tower.
