Sannazzaro de' Burgondi

Sannazzaro de ' Burgondi is a municipality with 5530 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Pavia in the Italian region Lombardy.

Location and economic

Sannazzaro de ' Burgondi is about 2 kilometers north of the river and 50 kilometers south of Milan in here completely flat Po Valley. The community is known for its cultivation of risotto rice, especially the variety Carnaroli. Economically and ecologically determined, however, is a major refinement of the kidney Eni Spa, immediately west of the residential areas of the community.

History

The foundation of the settlement, which lies in the Lomellina, an area between Piedmont and Lombardy, goes back to pre-Roman times. It was named after the early Christian martyr San Nazzaro. The Knights of Sannazzaro de ' Burgondi already enjoyed under the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa high reputation. Frederick took the nobles of San Nazzaro de Burgondi in his protection, confirmed their allods and fiefs, appointed her to legates in Sardinia and gave them a set of privileges
