Santa Maria Hoè

Santa Maria Hoè is a municipality with 2208 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Lecco in the Italian region Lombardy.

Geography

Santa Maria Hoè is located about 20 km south of the provincial capital of Lecco, halfway between Como and Bergamo, in Meratese, a landscape in the western part of the Brianza. Districts ( frazioni ) are Alduno, Bosco, Hoè and Tremonte.

The neighboring municipalities are Castello di Brianza, Colle Brianza, Olgiate Molgora and Rovagnate.

Culture and sights

In the 19th century Santa Maria Hoè was an important marketplace for silkworm cocoons; the sericulture was from the mid-18th century to the 20th century a very important activity in Brianza.

In the township the churches are:

  • Chiesa di Santa Maria Parish Church - Parochial Church from the 17th century. The facade dates from the 18th century and remained unfinished. In the church are works by Camillo Procaccini, Giacomo Bono and Fiammenghino ( Giovan Mauro della Rovere ).
