Scent hound
Hound, is the name for a hunting dog who pursues wild over long distances. Hounds have a good sense of smell and can follow a trail. They have been used for instance in hunts and drag hunts, which is why the term tour de force dog was also used interchangeably. Hounds are usually used as a pack: a group of dogs that hunt together. In Georg Ludwig Hartig textbook for hunters and who want to be (1812 ) puts it:
" Parforce dogs serve, a deer, a pig, or some other piece of game to pursue in numerous company, called pack until it is so exhausted that you shoot it dead before the dogs or can intercept. "
Already in the 9th century hunting dog breeds were differentiated for various uses distinguished. Among them were medium-sized meutejagende hounds, which were distinguished by the very large hounds.
Bracken are very similar to running dogs and are often counted among them.
