Schwarzensee (Salzkammergut)

The Schwarzensee is a good fishing lake belonging to the Salzkammergut in Sankt Wolfgang am Wolfgangsee.

It lies between Wolfgangsee, Attersee and Mondsee at the southern foot of the mountain sheep at an altitude of 716 m. He is up to 54 m deep. The southwestern shore is flat, the northeastern shore rocky and steep embankments.

When drain at Sudwestrand is a country inn on the south end of the lake the Gramerhauseralm, on the west bank the Simmerlalm on the north shore the Bacherlalm.

The lake is artificially regulated, it is operated as an annual storage power plant (energy AG), and can be up to 6 m level fluctuations have, so at low water its shores are muddy.

Hydrological remarkable is the high manganese content in depth. One origin of the name is not documented, but it is assumed that it refers to the blackening by Manganese: In the rare full mixing dissolved manganese salts may rise and oxygen manganese (IV ) oxide hydrates ( manganite, pyrolusite ) form. Slightly northwest of the lake of Schwarzenseemarmor was formerly mined by a Mangane and iron oxides vividly colored limestone (pseudo marble).

The lake is a nature reserve ( Schwarzensee in St. Wolfgang, N016, 48.7719 ha ) were reported. The water quality is very good. The quality, seasonal water fluctuation corresponds to the natural regime of the lake with its small catchment area in Kalkkarst the Sheep Mountain Group, and is enhanced only slightly by the Überstauung.

He is an underused swimming lake, and of good bathing water quality ( best). On the west bank there are several swimming. Boating, with small inflatable dinghies, is prohibited.

The lake is accessible by Strobl on the small town Rußbach. An access by car (parking fees apply) and a round handling are possible. There is a seasonal refreshments available, the country inn at the south end of the lake.

The Schwarzensee is a popular hiking destination. Roads lead west to Mönichsreith, Aschau and St. Wolfgang and the facing stone on the Sheep Mountain Peak, in the north of the castle grave gorge after Burgbachau and the Lasseralm to Burgau, both on the Attersee, on the Eisenau by sheep Ling and Lake Mondsee and the sheep mountain Peak, and eastward along the road to Rußbach, or go northeast through the Haleswiessee in the Weißenbachtal as well as on the Zimnitz -Leonberg summit.
