Sean Bergenheim

Sean Bergheim (born 8 February 1984 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since July 2011 with the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Sean Bergheim began his career as a hockey player in his native Finland for Jokerit Helsinki, for which he was a total of three years from 2001 to 2004 in the SM- liiga active. The greatest success he was able to celebrate with the team, were the Finnish league title in 2002 and winning the IIHF Continental Cup in the season 2002 /03. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 in the first round than a total of 22 players from the New York Islanders, for which he at the beginning of the 2003/04 season his debut in the National Hockey League, announced before he season at the his former club Jokerit Helsinki in Finland ended.

During the lockout in the 2004/ 05 NHL season Bergheim played exclusively for New York's farm team of the American Hockey League, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers before the 2005/06 season in 28 games for New York in the NHL nine points scorer, including four goals scored.

On August 5, 2006 Mountain Home signed as a free agent a contract with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Russian Super League. Only three months later joined the attackers in the Swedish Elitserien, where he finished the season with Frölunda HC. In the summer of 2007 Bergheim returned to his former club New York Islanders back, for which he played until 2010 and another 200 NHL games completed.

In August 2010 Bergheim was taken by the Tampa Bay Lightning under contract. On 1 July 2011, he signed a contract for four years with the Florida Panthers.

Internationally

For Finland Bergheim took part in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2001 and 2002 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2002, 2003 and 2004. In addition, he was in the squad of Finland to the A World Championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
