Main lake is a community in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim -Schongau. It forms with the community Iffeldorf management community lake home.

Geography

Main lake is located in the Oberland region at the southern end of Lake Starnberg. There are the following districts: Jenhausen, Magnetsried, lake home. The municipal area extends from the shore to the south of the Osterseen, whose northern part from the Stechsee, and the Frechensee lie in the municipality. To the west is the municipality draws on the ridge between Starnberg and Ammersee, these areas are attributable to the Eberfinger Drumlinfeld.

History

Main lake was allegedly 740 mentioned for the first time in a document. Until the secularization in 1803 the inhabitants of the lake main were mostly dependent of the surrounding monasteries: Polling, Bern Ried, Benediktbeuren, Beuerberg and Habach. Main part of the lake Rentamt Munich and the court Weilheim of the Electorate of Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

Towards the end of World War II on April 30, 1945, in the village of a railway evacuation transport from the Dachau concentration camp subcamp Mühldorf 3,000 concentration camp inmates to stand, who were liberated by U.S. troops. 92 of them died from the abuse suffered, and were buried in the village. On April 30, 1995 50 years later, a memorial was built on the Bahnhofstrasse. Every year on April 30, a memorial service is held there. The first buried on the spot dead were reburied in the years 1955 and 1956 to Dachau.

Incorporations

On April 1, 1938 parts of the territory of the dissolved municipality Arnried were incorporated.

In the municipal reform on May 1, 1978, the formerly independent municipality Magnetsried was incorporated.

Population Development

The European Commission wants to tilt the persecuted in Lake Main locals model for the stabilization of the age structure by giving preference to young families from the region in the sale of building land, as it is tantamount to a violation of the equality principle.

Social insurance contributions at residence in 1998 there were a total of 749 in the manufacturing sector (as well as mining and quarrying and earth ) there were none, in construction enterprises 5. Traffic

Main lake is situated on the state road 2064 Weilheim - Lake Main - King Village - Bad Tölz with access to the A 95 and state road 2063 Starnberg - Tutzing - Lake Main - Penzberg. Main lake has a railway station on the route Munich - Tutzing - Kochel, the Kochelseebahn. It is from the RVO bus 9614 Tutzing - approached Penzberg and visited by the ships of the Bavarian Lakes shipping.
