Selce, Banská Bystrica District
Selce (Slovak until the 19th century " Selec "; Hungarian Szelcse until 1888 Szelec ) a town in the middle of Slovakia with 2169 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2011). It is located in Okres Banská Bystrica, which belongs to Banskobystrický kraj.
Geography
Selce lies in the valley landscape Horehronie below the mountains Starohorské Hills on Bach Selčiansky creek about six kilometers east of Banská Bystrica.
History
The town was first mentioned in 1332 as Sancti Omnes de Zolio, after the name of the local Church of All Saints, 1340, then as Selcze. Selce was for centuries a farming village that belonged to the manor of the nearby castle Liptsch.
