Sidney Lawrence

Sidney Lawrence ( born December 31, 1801 in Weybridge, Vermont; † May 9, 1892 in Moira, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Sidney Lawrence was born in the beginning of the 19th century in Weybridge in Addison County. The family moved during his early childhood by Moira in Franklin County. There he attended community schools. He studied law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice in Moira. He has held more than half of the century the post of justice of the peace. In addition, he was supervisor and assessor. In 1837 he was Guardianship and estate Richter ( surrogate ) in Franklin County - a position which he held until 1843. He sat in the years 1843 and 1844 in the Senate of New York and 1846 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1846 for the 30th Congress, he was in the 15th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Joseph Russell on March 4, 1847. Since he gave up for reelection in 1848, he retired after March 3, 1849 from the Congress.

After his conference time he went back to jurisprudential activities, but also pursued real estate and banking. On May 9, 1892, he died in Moira and was then buried in the same cemetery.
