Sigismund, Duke of Bavaria

Siegmund (also called Sigismund; * July 26, 1439; † February 1, 1501 at Castle Blood Castle ) from the house of Wittelsbach was from 1460 until his resignation in 1467 Duke of Bavaria - Munich.

Siegmund 1439, the third son of Duke Albrecht III. and his wife Anna of Brunswick- born Grubenhagen. Between 1460 and 1467 he ruled the Duchy of Bavaria - Munich, until his death in 1463, together with his older brother John IV In September 1467 he retired in favor of his younger brother Albrecht IV of the government back, keeping only Bayern Dachau as a domain that fell after his death at Bayern Munich.

Siegmund encouraged churches and monasteries, and laid the foundation for the 1468 Munich Frauenkirche. The art-loving duke had his residence Castle Blood Castle expand and kept peacocks and other birds. Siegmund died on 1 February 1501 and was buried in the grave of the Emperor Louis of Bavaria in the Frauenkirche. He was never married, but left four illegitimate children.
