Simon Richard Cox ( born April 28, 1987 in Reading) is an English- Irish football player who is active for the Irish national football team since 2011. Currently, he is the English second division Nottingham Forest under contract.
Playing career
Reading FC and Swindon Town
Simon Cox made his debut on 20 September 2005 the Reading FC in the second round of the League Cup in 2005/ 06 (1-0 against Luton Town). After two appearances for Reading in the Football League Championship 2005 / 06, he spent the 2006/ 07 predominantly on loan at the third division side FC Brentford and Northampton Town.
August 31, 2007 Cox moved on loan to Swindon Town and achieved in nineteen third league games eight goals. After these impressive performances, the club signed him on 31 January 2008 on a firm contractual basis. Overall, Simon Cox scored in the 2007/ 08 season fifteen league goals and ended the season with his team in mid-table. Even more successful was for the 21- year-old attacker the season 2008/09. Together with Rickie Lambert from Bristol Rovers he was top scorer in the Football League One, both players scored 29 goals each.
West Bromwich Albion
On 8 July 2009 Simon Cox moved for a transfer fee in the amount of £ 1.5 million to West Bromwich Albion. For the second division he scored 9 league goals in 28 games of the Football League Championship 2009/10 and rose with his new team as runner-up behind Newcastle United in the Premier League. In the Premier League 2010/11, the 23- year-old striker ( 19 league games / 1 goal) came mostly only as a substitute for use. After relegation in the first Erstligasaison ended West Bromwich Albion, with again only as a substitute Simon Cox coming use ( 18 league games), the Premier League 2011/12 as a table tenth.
Nottingham Forest
On August 11, 2012, he signed a three year contract with the second division Nottingham Forest.
Irish national
On 24 May 2011 Simon Cox denied the Nations Cup his first cap for Ireland and the game against Northern Ireland, scoring the goal for a 5-0 final score. In qualifying for the 2012 European Football Championship Ireland came in second behind group winners Russia in second place and sat down in the subsequent playoff 4-0 and drew 1-1 with Estonia by. For participating in a European Championship finals for the first time since Euro 1988 Irish, Cox was appointed national coach Giovanni Trapattoni in the Irish Championship squad. The in all three group games to use upcoming Cox retired with his team after losing three out prematurely.
