Sinéad Cusack

Sinéad Moira Cusack ( born February 18, 1948 in Dalkey, County Dublin) is an Irish actress.

Life

Sinéad Cusack was born in Dalkey, the daughter of actor couple Cyril and Maureen Cusack. She is the sister of actresses Sorcha Cusack, Niamh Cusack, and half sister to Catherine Cusack. In her youth she had an affair with the footballer George Best

Since 1978 she is married to the British actor Jeremy Irons. The marriage produced two sons, Samuel James ( Sam, born in 1978 ) and Maximilian Paul ( Max, born in 1985 ). A decade before her marriage got Sinéad Cusack in 1968 an illegitimate son whom she released for adoption. Ever since it was revealed that it is the Irish Trotskyist politician Richard Boyd Barrett at this child, the two are again in conjunction. In the 2007 elections they participated in the campaign in favor of Barrett. Sinéad Cusack is the patron of the Burma Campaign UK, a London-based group that campaigns for human rights and democracy in Burma ( Myanmar).

Career

Her first acting role was in Dublin at the Abbey Theatre. In 1970, she was with Peter Sellers in the movie Hoffman front of the camera. In 1975, she moved to London and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company at. With the RSC in 1984 she gave her Broadway debut. She played the role of Roxane in Cyrano de Bergerac alongside Derek Jacobi and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing ( Much Ado About Nothing). The latter piece was originally 1982/83 listed at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford- upon- Avon, was in 1983/84 then moved to the London 's Barbican Theatre, where it was listed along with Cyrano. Both pieces were in 1984/85 listed at the Gershwin Theatre in New York, and the role of Beatrice brought Cusack nominated for a Tony Award. After the Broadway performances, she toured with Much Ado About Nothing by the United States, with guest appearances in Washington, DC and Los Angeles. In 1992, she starred alongside her husband Jeremy Irons in the film adaptation of Graham Swift Waterland.

One of their most famous stage roles was in 1998 in Our Lady of Sligo, in which she played the lead role in May O'Hara in performances in their native Ireland on Broadway and at the National Theatre. In the same year she starred alongside Pierce Brosnan in the film drama The Nephew (The Nephew ). In 2004, she participated and 2006 in the BBC mini-series North and South in the film V for Vendetta (V for Vendetta ). In 2006, she starred in the BBC sitcom Home Again. In the resulting 2007 thriller Eastern Promises - Eastern Promises she starred alongside Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts in a supporting role.

In 1998 she was awarded Best Actress at the Evening Standard Award for Best Actress and also with the Critics' Circle Theatre Award.
