Sobrescobio is a municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias, in northern Spain.

Geography

Parroquias: The municipality is divided into 3 parroquias: Ladines ( Llaíñes ) Oviñana, San Andrés de Agüés.

The villages of the municipality are: Campiellos ( Campiellos ), La Polina (La Polina ) Ladines ( Llaíñes ) Rioseco ( Rusecu ), de Soto Agüés ( Soto d' Agüés ) Villamorey ( Villamorei ).

Neighboring municipalities are: Piloña and Caso in the north, to the west of Laviana, to the east by Caso in the south of Aller.

Mountains: The predominantly of limestone, shale and sandstone subsoil with the El Retriñón, ( 1,862 m), the largest surveys are typical for this region. The mountain ranges of the Sierra Grandesllanes, Sierra Carderu, Sierra del Crespon, Sierra and the Sierra de Mermeja Collaroces limit the community.

Rivers: The municipality is crossed by the Rio Nalon. The rivers Rio del Alba, Llaimu Rio, Rio Nozalin and the Rio Huegro contribute to the impressive landscape formation. The capital, Rioseco located directly at the lake " Embalse de Rioseco ".

Climate

As in many parts of Asturias there by proximity to the Gulf Stream, a mild climate, with warm, humid summers but cold winters ago, in the fall it comes sometimes to relatively strong storms.

History

To the Middle Ages

As almost everywhere in Asturias confirm findings from the Neolithic period, the early settlement of the region. Several burial mounds ( in: Pumarín, Unqueru, Campu La Braña and Monte CAON ) can still be seen today. There are several dolmens, not all of which have been cataloged to date. The hill forts of Agues ( Soto de Agues ) Campiellos and Corona de Castro witness the ongoing colonization of the region. The Romans had built here a major road that ran along the Rio Navia. There are still bridges, and fragments of the road, which are used to today. The " Castillo de los Aceales " with the " Torrexón de Villamorey " was the largest fortification in the valley of the Rio Nalon. She was dragged multiple, rebuilt under Alfonso I. and later handed over to the Order of Santiago. 1344 in the Carta Puebla the boundaries and the associated variety has been written down.

Today

1523, with the end of the Order of Santiago, the municipality until 1528 was under the ecclesiastical administration. Philip II, the congregation sold in 1528 to the Abbey of Oviedo for the price of 600,000 maravedis. This was the first of the name "el coto de Sobrescobio " written down. During the Spanish War of Independence the town was up and march through the territory of General Gómez in the fight against the French troops under General Bonet. During the Carlistenaufstände the community remained liberal, and retained his seat in the General Assembly of the principality. The capital of the congregation remained until 1929 in La Polina, until the council Rioseco stipulated as the new capital.

Specialty

Economy

Until the late 19th century, the land and Fortstwirtschaft with up to 90 % of the total population. Cattle and chestnuts in the region were known throughout Spain. The fall in prices and the increasing industrialization caused in the community an appropriate " rural exodus ". Today, most workers are so busy as commuters in the nearby industrial plants of Oviedo, Gijon. Rising is also the regional tourism, through the nearby mountains and nature parks.
