In the seven- kilometer mark his coach Gerard Kemkers instructed him on the wrong path, so that Kramer was eventually disqualified by the jury - after he had clearly undercut the existing fastest time in goal and has already celebrated his gold medal. Immediately after the competition, the athlete insulted his coach, who also took over the responsibility for the error and said that for him plunge a world together. In the Dutch media, the disqualification has been much discussed; the present in Vancouver Prince Willem- Alexander described the situation as dramatic. As a result of the competition, several athletes for Kemkers, who eventually remained Kramer's coach expressed. The Dutchman justified this decision by saying that he had achieved with Kemkers ' means a number of titles, now he could " drop impossible " him.
