Spetses (Greek Σπέτσες (f. pl. ) ) Is a Greek island south of the Argolis Peninsula in the Gulf of Argolis and part of the island group Saronic Gulf Islands. Along with the uninhabited island Velopoula and the privately owned small island Spetsopoula it forms the municipality ( Dimos, δήμος ) Spetses, in the Attica Regional District islands.

The name Spetses comes from the time when the island was controlled by Venice ( 13th to 15th century) and the island " Isola delle special red " was called, which means as much as the island of spices. In ancient times the island was called Pityoussa.

The highest elevation is the Prophet Elias with 248 m height.

In the Greek War of Independence against the Turks in the years 1821 and 1822 the ships of the island played a decisive role in the fight against the Turkish fleet. It is a heroic figure from the Greek war of liberation. In its 300-year old house a small museum.
