Stakčín

Stakčín (Hungarian Takcsány - to 1902 Sztakcsin ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia, about 7 kilometers east of Snina. It lies in the valley of the river Cirocha, a few kilometers from Starina Reservoir, between the mountains Vihorlatské Hills and Bukovské Hills in the ( Carpathians ). The seat of the Poloniny National Park office is located at Stakčín.

History

The village was mentioned in writing in 1492 for the first time as Staccyn. Until 1918 it belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly established Czechoslovakia.

After the occupation of the Slovak - Hungarian War in 1939 Stakčín was affiliated until 1945 as Takcsány to Hungary, since the place is again part of Czechoslovakia and since 1993 the newly created Slovakia.

In 1981, the villages Ostrožnica, Smolník and Velka Polana were angliedert the place, followed in 1985 and 1986 Starina the villages Dara, Ruske and Zvala. All of these places are located entirely or partially within the territory of the Starina Reservoir.
