Stanko Subotić

Stanko " Cane" Subotic ( born September 9, 1959 in Kalinovac at Ub, Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian businessman.

Biography

Subotic comes from a simple family of craftsmen and was born as the sixth and youngest child at the same time. Since 1999 he has lived in Switzerland. His wife's name is Jagoda. Together they have a daughter named Mia

He graduated from high school in economic Ub (Serbia). In his early childhood Subotic worked in the carpentry shop of his father. Early 20s, he went to France to work as a tailor. Very soon he had his own chain of fashion stores and developed his own wholesale and retail companies.

By the year 1993, his main business was in the textile industry and production of sweets, but economic sanctions against Serbia forced him to change course.

As early as 1985 he had begun to invest in the Serbian economy, and supplied equipment for the construction industry.

In the early 1990s he returned to Serbia and founded the company "Mia" which also produces candy. The collapse of the former Yugoslavia and the expansion of competitors from Asia brought the textile industry of the Balkans in distress, which meant that Mia took over other textile producers and continuously expanded. In 1997, he left Serbia again.

In 2006, he led ranked 86 of the list of most Eastern Europeans of the Polish magazine Wprost. His personal fortune was estimated at € 650 million.

He is now a Swiss citizen.

Entrepreneurial activity

Subotic has a wide variety of beneficial interest. He is the founder and business owner of " Emerging Marketing Investment ( EMI) " in Denmark. Also by the Serbian company "D Trade", whose main business is the sale and distribution of wine, newspapers and magazines and real estate. He is co-owner of " Futura Plus", a commercial network in South-East Europe, with more than 4,000 employees. He is co-owner of the meat processing operation " Famis LLC", founded in 2002, as well as various companies in Greece and Russia selling non-alcoholic beverages and sporting goods.

Subotic is the owner of large-scale vineyards in France, where the high-quality wine Louis Max is produced. He began in 1989 to invest in this company and has since January 2007, the sole owner. Subotic has its own wine cellar in the center of Belgrade.

In 2003 he acquired the Serbian company " Duvan ", which has a large distribution network of kiosks. After the acquisition of Duvan Subotic 2004 it began a collaboration with the German WAZ media group. After Subotic was, however, the wanted list of Interpol and eventually arrested, the German media company terminated the collaboration in 2008.

Subotic founded in Montenegro, the company " Montenegro Futura " with a similar distribution network.

Due to an embargo against Serbia, he relocated the company headquarters to Cyprus in 2005. In the spring of 2007, Subotic acquired a portion of the St. Nikola Island near Budva and began to build a luxury hotel on the island of Sveti Stefan.

Stanko Subotic supported the democratic process in Serbia and Montenegro, which led to the overthrow of the Milošević regime and the independence of Montenegro. Among other things, he is said to have financed demonstrations for later Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic through a middleman. Scandals

Flight affair

Zoran Djindjic, from January 2001 until his assassination in March 2003, Prime Minister of Serbia, has admitted to have used the private jet of Subotic for a trip to Moscow. Nacional

In May 2001, the news magazine Nacional reported in several articles about alleged illegal activities in connection with organized crime, as well known members of the Serbian and Montenegrin governments. Insajder Interview

Mid-2006, came to new accusations against Subotic. The Mreža (Serbian: network) investigation of the Serbian police in 2003 characterized the tobacco shops Subotićs as contraband without tax payments, have made the senior members of the Milošević government possible.

On 15 May 2006 the journalist Brankica Stanković an interview with the radio station B92 was broadcast as part of the mission Insajder. Mreža arrests and Interpol Arrest Warrant

On 6 June 2007 the Serbian police arrested eight people, including former government employees and business partners of Subotic. This is alleged to be part of a criminal organization, which is controlled by Subotic. Subotic himself could not be found. An international arrest warrant for Subotic was applied later.

The Serbian Interior Ministry announced in a press release that the arrests set of the " Mreža " Ermittelungen were. They are accused of cigarette smuggling and tax evasion in the amount of € 40 million. The money should have been spent on Montenegro and Macedonia to accounts in Cyprus.
