Stará Ľubovňa District

The Okres Stara Ľubovňa is an administrative unit in the north-eastern Slovakia with 53 034 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) and an area of 707.9 km ².

Historically the district lies largely in the former county Zips ( Spis ) in the west of the area, a smaller part in the former county Sáros ( Saris in the East, see also List of historic counties of Hungary ).

The Okres is one of the youngest Slovakia, because it exists in its present form only since 1968. Elevation above sea level moves 445-1157 meters above sea level. The Poprad River flows through the whole area from west to east and then flows north to Poland, where it forms the border between Poland and Slovakia for 30 kilometers. In Poland, he then opens into the second flow of Okres Stara Ľubovňa, the Dunajec, which is also the border river in the northwest of Okres. On the bank of Dunajec is the National Park Pieniny, composed mainly of limestone, while otherwise Flyschsandstein place in the region of Stara Ľubovňa.

The highest peak of the Okres is the Minčol in Čergovské pohorie Mountains in the east of the area.

In Okres Stara Ľubovňa there are also some mineral and thermal springs. Are known Vyšné Ružbachy and Lubovnianske Kúpele.
