Steeg, Tyrol

Steeg is a municipality with 683 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Reutte, Tyrol ( Austria ).

Geography and transport

Steeg is the first place in the Tyrolean Lech Valley. The community consists of several villages and hamlets, as Walchen, Hägerau, level, Dickenau, Steeg, Hinterellenbogen, Prenten and the location at the end of the Lech Gorge Lechleiten and Mitre ( already belong to the diocese of Feldkirch ), where the road continues in Vorarlberg Warth leads. From Warth the road leads over the Hochtannbergpass further in the Bregenz Forest. South of Steeg, the road branches off to the emperor.

History

Steeg was first documented in 1427. First settlers were the Walser, who fled from their homeland.

Coat of arms

A black arch spans a vertical silver wave band on green surface. This is mentioned in the Late Middle Ages river crossing, after the town was named.
