Stephen R. Fitzgarrald

Stephen R. Fitzgarrald ( born December 25, 1854 in Center Point, Linn County, Iowa, † June 2, 1926 in Denver, Colorado ) was an American politician (Democratic Party). He was from 1909 to 1915, the Vice Governor of the State of Colorado.

Stephen Fitzgarrald moved with his father George in 1878 to Colorado to mine for gold there. During a brief stay in Leadville, where he worked in the mining industry, he began to be interested in a legal career. He returned to Iowa to study the law there.

Finally, he settled permanently in 1881 in Colorado down. At first he lived in Ophir, 1883 then in Telluride. In 1915 he moved to the area from Silverton, and later to Denver. Fitzgarrald served as a trial attorney, the state capital as well as the Deputy District Attorney. His first political office he took over 1893-1895 as a deputy in the House of Representatives from Colorado; he represented there, the San Miguel County and brought mainly bills one in the field of tax penalties and the trust agreements.

1909 Fitzgarrald was elected to the side of Governor John F. Shafroth for Lieutenant Governor of Colorado. Also under his successor Elias M. Ammons, who took office in January 1913, he remained for two more years at his post.
