San Miguel County (Colorado)
The San Miguel County is a county located in the state of Colorado of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Telluride.
Geography
The County in southwestern Colorado, on the west by Utah and has an area of 3337 square kilometers, of which 5 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Montrose County, Ouray County, San Juan County (Colorado), Dolores County and San Juan County ( Utah).
History
San Miguel County was formed on February 27, 1883 from parts of Ouray County.

According to the census of 2000, there were 6,594 people in the county. There were 3,015 households and 1,423 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 93.57 percent White, 0.29 percent African American, 0.85 percent Native American, 0.74 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 3.37 percent from other races groups; 1.11 percent were descended from two or more races. 6.66 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,015 households out of which 22.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 38.3 percent were married couples living together, 5.4 percent were single mothers. 52.8 percent were non-families. 32.7 percent of all households and 2.5 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.77.
Based on the county the population was spread from 17.6 percent population under 18 years, 9.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 43.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 3.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 120.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 126.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 48,514, and the median income for a family was $ 60,417. Males have a median income of $ 35,922, women $ 30,278. The per capita income was $ 35,329. 10.4 percent of the population and 6.6 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 11.1 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 8.0 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
