Strachan Open
The Strachan Open were a professional snooker tournament.
They were established in the 1991/92 season as a regular ranking tournament of Snooker Main Tour. Venue was Thornbury. Peter Ebdon scored in qualifying for the tournament a maximum break.
For the 1992/93 season there was a rule change: For the first time four so-called minor ranking tournaments were held, their significance for the world rankings was at a tenth of the normal tournaments. In addition to the Benson & Hedges Championship which also affected the Strachan Open, which was converted into three Strachan Challenge tournaments; held in Aldershot (2 × ) and Sheffield.
However, many top players do not take account of the low score part in these tournaments, so this minor - ranking scheme was abolished after this year now.
Still remained for the 1993/94 season two Strachan Challenges obtain ( in Aldershot and Leicester ), but without regard for the world rankings. After the tournament tour disappeared from the calendar of the Main.
