Summer in Paradise is the 29th studio album by the American music group The Beach Boys from the year 1992. Prior to the appearance of That's Why God Made the radio in 2012, it was the last studio album, was released on the new material. The Beach Boys used for publication in the United States their own record label, Brother Records. In Europe, it was distributed by EMI. It has been reported that the distributor who marketed the album in the U.S., soon had to declare it bankrupt.

The album was produced by Terry Melcher. Only the song Forever was produced not by him but by Garry Griffin, Lanny Cordula and John Stamos. As Executive Producer acted Mike Love.

Formation

Since the album Still Cruisin ' in 1989, little has been published since the Beach Boys had lost their record deal. In 1991 came from Mike Love the idea to create a concept album about the early, typical Beach Boys themes like summer, sun, beach, surfing and girls. Love wanted to create the "ultimate " summer album with this album.

Love and his musical partner Terry Melcher wrote for this purpose six new songs that dealt with the topics mentioned. Furthermore, were again strongly influenced some texts from the teachings of Transcendental Meditation. In addition to these cover versions of Hot Fun in the Summertime, Under the Boardwalk and Remember Walking in the sand were taken. Bruce Johnston contributed the ballad Slow Summer Dancin ' at. There were two new entries from the Beach Boys catalog. These were Surfin and Forever, with the latter to John Stamos einsang the lead vocal.

Recordings and investments

Melcher and Love were the driving forces behind the project, who also directed the recordings. Since especially Alan Jardine had been critical to this project, he was suspended from Mike Love during the recording of the band. Even Carl Wilson was represented only sporadically in the recordings, also took the musicians who went with the Beach Boys on tour, not closed in this project. Bruce Johnston was the only member of the band, which accounted for an instrument with the keyboard. The harmony songs mostly come from Mike Love, Terry Melcher, Bruce Johnston and Adrian Baker.

The rhythm section was recorded by producer Terry Melcher completely over a drum machine and keyboards.

Alan Jardine involved only at the end of the recordings in the project, but his participation was limited to only three songs.

Publication

When the album was finished recorded, Mike Love it Capitol Records offered to it - like many other record companies - rejected. Therefore, the Beach Boys brought it out on their own label, Brother Records. Summer in Paradise sold worldwide poorly and was no longer available commercially within a few weeks. Also appearances in the popular TV series Baywatch, and Full House, in which several songs were presented, the sales figures could not increase.

Since the album in the U.S. very badly sold (in the U.S. were allegedly sold less than 1000), Terry Melcher mixte five titles from new and used these in the European version. Melcher also wanted to publish a new mixed reviews of Under the Boardwalk. Working with him was, however, previously completed, as the band saw the person responsible for the failure in it.

The album Summer in Paradise made it to the U.S. as the first Beach Boys album not in the charts. The only known chart listing was ranked number 37 in Switzerland. The album was there holding two weeks in the Top 40.

After only a few copies of the album were sold and it was not reproduced after the first edition, it has for years as a collectible.
